Hundreds of reenactors are in Huntington Beach for annual Civil War Days

The outcome you know, but how well do you know your Civil War history and about the life and times of the soldiers and families affected?

This weekend, reenactors are bringing the Civil War to life in the large field behind the Huntington Beach Central Library. The Civil War Days event hosted by the Huntington Beach Historical Society is a Labor Day tradition in its 31st year. It started Saturday and continues Sunday.

Hear the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation from an actor portraying President Abraham Lincoln. Watch hundreds of reenactors from around the country drill in the military style of the time and recreate a Civil War supply depot.

At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday they will recreate a historic battle using real horses and cannons.

There will also be presentations on “Native Voices in the War” and “African American Life & Service in the War.”
