President Abraham Lincoln will give his Gettysburg Address on Saturday … and again on Sunday.
A reenactor portraying the president will share the famed speech, along with the Emancipation Proclamation, at the 31st annual Civil War Days in Huntington Beach this weekend.
Hundreds of reenactors from across the country will bring battles, historical moments and the every day to life during the free annual event that has become a Labor Day weekend tradition in Huntington Beach.
Watch the reenactors do drills and show tactics of the era at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday and 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, and then go into battle twice each afternoon at 1:30 and 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, using real horses and cannons.
There will also be new presentations both days on “Native Voices in the War” and “African American Life & Service in the War.” A Civil War supply depot will be recreated in historical detail.
“This event is our public service to the community, educating and inspiring all generations and across all walks of life,” organizers with the Huntington Beach Historical Society said.
Activities last into the evening with a concert on Saturday and a 9 a.m. church service starts the day on Sunday.
