Checkers & Rally’s is following in the footsteps of McDonald’s, Burger King and other fast food chains with its own $5 value meal.
This one attempts to go one better by including five items. The others boast four items, usually a sandwich, fries, chicken nuggets and a small drink.

The 5 For $5 combo includes a Cheese Double burger or a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Bites, small seasoned fries, a 16-ounce fountain drink and an apple pie.
Checkers & Rally’s are two brands from a Florida company. They have the same menu and more than 800 locations between them. Rally’s has 43 locations in California, according to its website. Checkers has one, in Bakersfield.
At the Rally’s we visited, we were offered an upgrade by adding bacon to our sandwich, which would have raised the price by $1.79.
Rally’s isn’t the only chain with new $5 offerings. Dave & Buster’s, the sports bar and arcade based in Dallas, has launched a “Power 5 Lineup” that includes snacks such as nachos and 22-ounce draft beers, according to a news release. Its rewards members can get five free games with the purchase of a $20 card.
