Two people were arrested and around a half-million dollars in cocaine was found during a traffic stop by U.S. Border Patrol officers in Temecula this week, authorities said.
Around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, officers performed a traffic stop of an SUV along the 15 Freeway in Temecula with a canine team brought in to assist with a search of the vehicle, according to the U.S. Border Patrol. The canine alerted officers that narcotics were possible in the vehicle.
Around 30 cellophane wrapped packages, typically used with narcotics smuggling, were found in a custom compartment behind the dashboard. The substance in the bundles tested positive for cocaine, and amounted to around 81 pounds of the drug.
The driver and a passenger were arrested, though information on the two was not released by authorities.
The seizure was part of the agency’s joint Operation Apollo, aimed at combatting the selling and manufacturing of fentanyl and other illicit narcotics.
