Buena Park girls basketball players Alana White and Bella Harmon, both of whom were selected All-County last season, have enrolled at St. Joseph in Lakewood, new St. Joseph coach Chris Childress confirmed.
Harmon, a 6-foot point guard, and White, a 6-foot-1 post, were selected first and second-team All-County, respectively, after helping the Coyotes finish 22-11 last winter. They are both juniors.
“Wish nothing but the best for them,” Buena Park coach DeAnthony Wiley said. “My main concern for every kid who plays for me is for them to have the opportunity to play in college.”
Harmon was selected Freeway League MVP last season after helping Buena Park claim its first league title. She averaged 11.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.9 steals.
White averaged 14.9 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks.
Buena Park reached the CIF-SS Division 2AA semifinals. The Coyotes lost to Moreno Valley 53-48.
This summer, White and Harmon helped Buena Park reach the semifinals of the top division at Girls California Live showcase. The Coyotes lost to eventual champion Sage Hill 64-59.
“I still think we’re good,” Wiley said.
Buena Park returns its leading scorer in forward Gloria Barrera, No. 3 scorer Mya Barnes and Wiley’s daughter Ava. The Coyotes also are planning for the return of Hannah Fuentes, a point guard who suffered a knee injury last season.
In 2023, Buena Park finished as the CIF-SS Division 4AA runner-up to Rialto.
