Former Mater Dei freshman running back Caleb Bey Jr., who practiced during the summer with St. John Bosco, has enrolled at Crean Lutheran, Saints coach Rick Curtis confirmed Monday.
Bey is a touted 5-foot-10, 185-pound sophomore who was expected to be part of St. John Bosco’s “stable” of running backs this fall.
“We’ve got a stable,” St. John Bosco coach Jason Negro said in mid-July of the Braves’ running backs. “Jeremy Lenore is our senior and then I got a junior and two sophomores who are really special.”
Negro, in an interview at Edison’s Battle at the Beach passing tournament, mentioned that Bey projected to be an excellent player. The coach also expressed excitement about sophomore running back Maliq Blackwell-Allen.
Last fall, Bey played on the freshman team at Mater Dei. He finished the school year at Mater Dei, his father Caleb Bey Sr. said.
Bey has been offered by Louisville and Maryland.
Crean Lutheran recently added two other transfers from the Trinity League: Santa Margarita All-County offensive lineman Jacob Maiava and former Mater Dei defensive back Patrick Hall. Maiava is a senior committed to SMU while Hall is a 6-foot sophomore.
Crean Lutheran opens the season Aug. 23 at Mullen of Colorado.
