Adam Sorgi has resigned as the baseball coach at Capistrano Valley for medical reasons, he announced Monday.
Sorgi, also a teacher at Capistrano Valley, has battled sortiperitoneal mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that attacks the stomach lining. He underwent his first surgery for it in May 2023.
“I need to take the semester off to recover and receive treatment,” Sogi said by text message Monday. “I feel the program needs someone who can make the commitment it deserves.”
Sorgi plans to resume teaching in January.
Sorgi, 39, has coached Capistrano Valley for seven years. He played baseball at Capistrano Valley and at Stanford.
He replaced Bob Zamora, the Cougars coach for 41 years in 2018. Sorgi played for Zamora at Capistrano Valley.
