Former Santa Margarita offensive lineman Jacob Maiava and former Mater Dei defensive back Patrick Hall have enrolled at Crean Lutheran, Saints football coach Rick Curtis confirmed on Friday.
Maiava is a 6-foot-2, 290-pound senior committed to SMU. He earned first-team All-Trinity League honors last season at Santa Margarita. It was his first season at the school after transferring from Liberty of Nevada.
Santa Margarita coach Anthony Rouzier recently said that Maiava was no longer with the Eagles and that he wasn’t sure what school the lineman was attending. Rouzier added that the departure of Maiava was a significant loss for his team.
Hall is a 6-foot, 160-pound sophomore defensive back who played last season at Mater Dei. In the spring, Hall surfaced as one of the young defensive backs to watch in the Monarchs’ secondary but spent time with Rancho Cucamonga in the summer.
Maiava and Hall join at Crean Lutheran roster already considered likely the best in school history. The squad also has added transfer wide receivers Dillon Booth from Paraclete and Drew Deese from Kennedy.
There have been changes to the coaching staff, too. Curtis has added Ryan Porter and former NFL player Derek Deese as assistant coaches.
The Saints have upgraded their nonleague schedule with San Juan Hills and La Serna among others. They open at Mullen of Colorado on Aug. 23.
