Crash that left La Habra motorcycle officer in critical condition was ‘a simple accident’

A La Habra motorcycle officer remained hospitalized in critical condition as California Highway Patrol investigators continued to probe the crash that left the officer injured Thursday, authorities said.

CHP investigators were out looking for surveillance video and witnesses of the two-vehicle crash, which also involved a Buick SUV in the area of Lambert Road and Walnut Street about 9:15 a.m., authorities said.

The officer was on duty when the crash occurred, La Habra police Sgt. Sumner Bohee said.

A second person was taken to a hospital after the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, but the status of that person was not known.

Detailed information about what led up to the crash was still under investigation, Sgt. Dave Davis of the CHP’s Westminster Office said Friday.

However, it was believed to have been “a simple accident,” he said.

“It was just a turning movement,” Davis said, adding that no alcohol or drugs were suspected.

Further information about the officer was not disclosed by La Habra police.
