Santa Margarita wide receiver Jonah Smith, a UCLA commit who broke a tibia bone in June, is progressing well in his recovery and hopes to play later this season.
“It feels good to be out (of) the (protective) boot and moving,” Smith said this past weekend.
Smith, a junior who transferred from Mater Dei, had surgery on his leg on June 20. He estimates that he has about seven weeks of rehabilitation left. He added that he hopes to return to the field later in the season.
Santa Margarita opens its season at Mission Viejo on Aug. 24.
Smith (6-0, 175) was enjoying a strong offseason before his injury in June. He committed to UCLA in mid-March.
At Santa Margarita, he is expected to form a strong 1-2 receiving duo with fellow junior Trent Mosley.
