A Newport Beach home, newly rebuilt from the ground up by haircare pioneer Jim Markham and his wife, Cheryl, is on the market for $16.5 million.

Inspired by the coastal style of the Hamptons where wealthy New Yorkers spend the summer, the 5,866-square-foot home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and designated entertaining spaces.

There’s a theater, game room and new backyard pool and spa.

A Hasten barbecue center adds to the amenities on this third-acre-plus peninsula lot, flanked by two cul-de-sacs in guard-gated Big Canyon. The property is surrounded by mature trees and new all-weather vinyl fencing for privacy.

Records show the couple bought the property in June 2021 for $6.85 million and rebuilt it into a light, bright retreat with museum-grade lighting, solid white oak flooring and smart technology.

Integration panels and touchpads are fully controlled by the app-based Savant system and there are two electric vehicle chargers in the garage.

“We dedicated our heart and soul to this home,” Cheryl Markham, an interior designer, said in a press release announcing the home listing.

Her work is seen throughout, from the bespoke Ann Sacks tiles and premium fixtures to the retractable La Cantina doors that seamlessly blend the great room with outdoor spaces.

In the gourmet kitchen, there are high-end appliances, a large center island with four seats, a walk-in butler’s pantry and wine storage.

Under the staircase is a 250-bottle wine cellar.

Spanning the entire upper level, the primary retreat offers a sitting area, bedroom, coffee and refreshment bar, direct elevator access and a bonus space that can be used as an office, massage room or workout studio.

Jim Markham curated the primary bathroom to incorporate “optimized lighting, premium seating and all the essentials to create a salon-ready space, perfect for luxurious grooming and preparation,” the release reads.

“As an entrepreneur, I approach every project with innovation and the highest level of professionalism,” he said. “Building this home was no different. I am proud of the work we have done, and it mirrors the dedication and quality I strive to achieve in all my ventures.”

Jim Markham, 80, is a celebrity hairstylist, haircare pioneer and author who started his career working alongside Jay Sebring, a hairstylist to the stars.

Sebring was one of five people murdered at actress Sharon Tate’s home by the Manson Family in 1969. After his murder, Markham bought Sebring’s business and continued to serve the celebrity clientele that included Paul Newman, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen and Robert Redford.

Markham would later bring authenticity to Sebring’s salon and products as depicted in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 release, “Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood.”

As founder and developer of five successful hair care companies, including ABBA Pure and Natural and PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, he is a pioneer of the sulfate-free movement. He continues to introduce products such as silicone-free, 100% vegan and certified hypoallergenic in all-recycled plastics packaging.

With new plans to promote Jim Markham’s recent business memoir “Big Lucky: Serial Entrepreneur Jim Markham’s Secret Formula for Success,” the couple officially listed the property and are now looking for a pied-à-terre in the Hollywood area, the release reads.

As Cheryl Markham put it, “We hope someone else will appreciate the home and recognize the value of every detail we have meticulously attended to.”

Rex McKown and Marcy Weinstein of M|W|A at Compass have the listing.
