Celebrate Old Glory in Anaheim this weekend.
The 20th annual Anaheim Flag Day celebration is scheduled 11:30 a.m. for June 9 at Pearson Park. There will be a patriotic community parade to start the day with marching bands, classic cars, floats, military groups and more. Kids can decorate wagons and bikes and patriotic pets are welcome.
There will also be free cupcakes and ice cream after the show.

Community service recognized
Congratulations to Jack Knight, aka “Jack the Artist.”
Jack was recently honored with a community service award from the Anaheim Police Department in the West Anaheim area. Jack has been providing free art activities throughout Anaheim for years and is a staple at the annual Anaheim Children’s Festival, Halloween Festival and more. He brings his own art supplies and shares them with the young people of Anaheim.

Get powered up for going green

Anaheim Ballet school presents its spring concert
Join students of the Anaheim Ballet as they take to the stage to showcase their hard work and dedication to dance.
They will be performing at 3 p.m. on June 8 in the Campus Theatre at Fullerton College, 321 E. Chapman Ave.
Tickets are on sale now for $20 through June 6, and they will be $25 at the show.

Festival planned in honor of Juneteenth
An early Juneteenth Festival is coming on June 15 .
The “Freedom is not Free” festival will be held from noon to 7 p.m. at the Pearson Park Amphitheater, 400 N. Harbor Blvd. It is being presented by the Orange County Heritage Council. Find out more about the event and the council at http://www.oc-hc.org.
Learn how to help others
There will be a free CPR class provided at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center on June 21.
Meghan Shigo, a local Realtor, is organizing the free course, great for new parents, teens looking to get babysitting jobs and such. The instructor is the Anaheim Colony’s very own Greg Gerovac. Adult, child and infant CPR will be provided.

Encouraging summer reading
The Anaheim Public Library system has launched its Summer Reading Program.
The theme this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” Patrons of all ages can log their reading and complete activities to earn prizes. It’s a way to encourage reading over the summer break.

Host a Japanese student
Anaheim’s Sister City, Mito, Japan, is sending students to Anaheim for the sister city exchange program.
This is part of the Sister City program sponsored by the Anaheim Sister City Commission; Mito has been a sister city since 1984.
Host families accommodate Japanese guests and ensure a fun and safe visit to Anaheim.

Free mulch and compost available
Compost and mulch are available to local residents through OC Waste & Recycling.
Supplies can be picked up from the Bee Canyon Greenery at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine and the Capistrano Greenery at the Prima Deschecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano. Make an appointment at OCLandfills.com/compost to pick some up.
Plan to take a shovel and containers that you can fill on your own.
