High-scoring freshman guard Kayla Rice of Dana Hills has enrolled at JSerra, Lions girls basketball coach Chyanne Butler confirmed Thursday.
Rice, a third-team All-County selection last season, averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.5 assists.
She lead the Dolphins (27-6) to the Sea View League title and the CIF-SS Division 3A semifinals. They lost to eventual champion JSerra 65-55.
Rice scored 33 points in the semifinal game, the first in Dana Hills’ history.
In their first appearance in the CIF Southern California Regional, the Dolphins received the No. 1 seed in Division III and fell to San Diego power Cathedral Catholic 54-45 in the opening round.
Rice netted 28 points in the loss.
“(Rice) is a star,” Cathedral Catholic coach Jackie Turpin said afterward.
Rice was selected Sea View League MVP and MVP of the Costa Mesa tournament.
At JSerra, she joins a team that is expected to return its entire starting lineup. The Lions started four freshmen and one junior last season en route to its first section championship. Freshman point guard Rosie Santos earned second-team All-County honors.
