Promising Mater Dei basketball player Chasity Rice has enrolled at reigning state and national champion Etiwanda, Eagles girls coach Stan Delus confirmed.
Rice, a 5-foot-6 freshman point guard, showed progress last season for Orange County’s top-ranked team.
She averaged 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists to help the Monarchs (25-8) claim the Trinity League title and reach the Open Division semifinals in the CIF-SS and SoCal regional playoffs.
Rice delivered one of her best performances in a 56-55 victory against Sage Hill in the first round of the regional in early February. She tallied nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Rice is the second Mater Dei guard to transfer to Etiwanda since the end of the 2022-23 season. Shaena Brew departed after her sophomore season with the Monarchs and helped Etiwanda this past season sweep CIF-SS Open, regional and state championships.
Mater Dei is deep at point guard. This coming winter, the Monarchs are expected to lean on seniors Addison Deal, Amaya Williams and Devyn Kiernan among others. Deal, an Iowa commit, missed most of the season with an ankle injury.
One of Etiwanda’s top returners next season will be senior point guard Aliyahna “Puff” Morris.
