A closer look at the top vote getter in Dan Albano’s poll for best performers from the CIF-SS softball finals last week:
Name: Annika Sogsti
High school: Pacifica
Position: First base
Year: Senior
Noteworthy: Sogsti bounced back from having a home run taken away by a spectacular catch by Kai Minor of Orange Lutheran to drive in the first run in the Mariners’ 3-0 win in the Division 1 final. The Cal State Fullerton-bound Sogsti drove in Michaela Meza with a sacrifice fly to second base with runners at first and third and one out in the fourth inning.
“When she came up with a runner at third and less than two outs, I knew we were going to score and take the lead,” Pacifica coach Tony Arduino said. “She’s been diving in big runs for us for four years. (She’s a) competitor in the batter’s box.”
Sogisti finished third on the team with 18 RBIs and tied for second in home runs with three.
She earned second-team honors in the Empire League.
