Man charged with murder in Fullerton shooting

SANTA ANA — A 20-year-old Fullerton man has been charged with gunning down a 19-year-old man and attempting to kill another victim in Fullerton.

Alexis David Rodriguez-Lopez was charged Friday with murder and attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a gun. The defendant was 17 when he was initially charged in Juvenile Court. However, he was found to be unsuitable for a trial in that court and was charged as an adult.

The defendant was accused of killing 19-year-old Tarcicio Magana III of Fullerton on May 28, 2021. He was also accused of attempting to kill Miles McCorkle, according to the criminal complaint.

Police were called to the 3500 block of West Valencia Drive about 8 p.m. that day regarding a solo-vehicle crash into a house, Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Brandon Clyde said in 2021. Officers later learned that one of the occupants of the car was shot.

When officers arrived, they found the victim near the vehicle, Clyde said. Magana was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCorkle, another teen in the vehicle, also sustained gunshot wounds, but survived.

No one in the home where the car crashed was injured.
