Orange Lutheran and Foothill senior Will Tanaka have each produced a highlight recently in CIF Southern Section boys golf postseason play.

The Lancers edged Portola by two strokes Monday to capture the CIF-SS Division 3 team championship at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.

Orange Lutheran posted a winning score of 2-over-par 362 and advanced to the CIF-SS/SCGA Qualifier on Thursday at Temecula Creek Golf Club in Temecula. Portola also moved on to the qualifier.

Freshman Junlin Pan and junior Nick Davis each shot 2-under 70 to lead the Lancers to their first section title.

Portola junior Leon Yang tied for the lowest score in Division 3 with a 67.

In the Division 1 final at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, the top 10 teams advanced to the SCGA qualifier.

The county teams that progressed were fourth-place Anaheim Discovery Christian, seventh-place Tesoro and Santa Margarita and Sunny Hills, which tied for ninth.

Senior Stephen Lou of Anaheim Discovery Christian shot a 4-under 68 for the low individual score at the Division 1 final.

Edison’s boys finished second to La Canada in the Division 2 finals at Lakewood Country Club.

In Division 4, Marina placed second to Westlake at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo.

Tanaka opened his postseason on May 6 by shooting a 6-under 66 at Bear Valley Country Club in Victorville to win the CIF-SS Central individual regional tournament.

Tanaka, the Crestview League champion, paced O.C. qualifying for Thursday’s CIF-SS individual championships at Temecula Creek.

At the Southern regional at Los Serranos, Mater Dei freshman Brayden James advanced after tying Long Beach Wilson’s Bryson Barnes atop the leaderboard with a 4-under 70.

The Southern regional saw several O.C. boys advance to the CIF-SS individuals, including Ethan Block of Tesoro, son of golf pro and professional player Michael Block. Ethan Block tied for fifth.

In Kentucky on Thursday, Michael Block will start the PGA Championships at Valhalla Golf Club. Last year, he stunned the golf world by tying for 15th at the PGA Championships.
