Local bragging rights and final tune-ups for the CIF Southern Section championships could push several Orange County swimmers to fast times this week in league finals.

From the South Coast League finals at Capistrano Valley to the Freeway League finals at Troy, all of the county’s leagues are holding their championships Thursday and Friday.

Here’s a few swimmers to watch:

Teagan O’Dell, Santa Margarita: The junior committed to Cal qualified first in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 46.02 seconds) and 100 backstroke (51.71) at the Trinity League prelims Tuesday at Santa Margarita.

Both times, the fastest in the county this season, set Trinity League records.

Gracyn Aquino, Santa Margarita: Aquino, a junior also committed to Cal, has emerged as one of the county’s top female sprinters with Teia Salvino not racing for the Eagles. Aquino qualified first at league prelims in the 50 (22.99) and 100 (51,25) freestyles.

Andrew Maksymowski, Northwood: The sophomore freestyler is increasingly becoming a must-see racer in the 200 and 500 freestyles. He leads the county in both events but will switch it up this week at the Pacific Coast League finals. He is surprisingly racing the 50 and 100 freestyles at Beckman.

Jacob Wang, Woodbridge: The senior’s quest to break 20 seconds in the 50 freestyle continues at the Pacific Coast League finals. His entry time for the prelims Wednesday is 20.58, the fastest time in the county.
