Savanna football coach Carl Agnew has resigned after one season and accepted a position coaching safeties at Chapman University, he confirmed.
Agnew said he remains a resident substitute teacher at Savanna with a contract that expires at the end of this school year.
“(I’m) currently looking for a teaching position,” he said. “It’s going to be a new challenge (at Chapman).”
Savanna finished 2-8 last season, picking up two wins in the Orange League.
The school’s athletics program is facing another potential loss in multi-sport coach and co-athletic director Alex Ramirez, who is among the teachers in the Anaheim Union district to receive a layoff notice.
Agnew arrived at Savanna after a two-year run as the coach at Santa Fe. Before that post, he served as the defensive coordinator at Long Beach Wilson and spent 11 seasons as the coach at Los Amigos.
Savanna will play the next two seasons in the Zeta League as part of the new Orange County Football Conference.
