Car driver charged in suspected DUI crash that killed motorcycle rider in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA — A 29-year-old man was charged Monday with a deadly alcohol-related collision with a motorcycle rider in Santa Ana.

Mario Celestino Torres was accused of killing 44-year-old Flor Mecon Granados of Santa Ana in a collision just before 3 a.m. Thursday at Bristol Street and Segerstrom Avenue, police said.

Torres was driving a 2024 Mazda that rear-ended the motorcycle driven by Granados, police said. Both vehicles were northbound on Bristol Street at Segerstrom Avenue when the car crashed into the motorcycle, police said.

Torres was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.

Torres pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing May 15.
