New taco spot and crepe joint open at Rodeo 39 in Stanton

Rodeo 39 Public Market, Stanton’s food hall-slash-shopping space, welcomed two new eateries in April: a Baja-inspired ceviche and tacos fast-casual spot by a longtime OC chef and a creperie offering paninis, pastries and, of course, thin pancakes.

First up, Capas, a new spot by chef Michael Campbell (formerly of the Loft at Montage and Pueblo in Costa Mesa), which opened April 7, offers such ceviche as ahi tuna served with guajillo chilie aioli, sweet onion, nori cilantro and white soja; yellowtail with coconut leche de tigre, lime, honey and pickled zucchini; and lime and chile shrimp adorned with jalapeno, tomatillo and roasted garlic.

Capas also serves smoked queso tacos (like shrimp a la plancha, smoked carnitas, birria and camote and queso), burritos (pollo rollo, burnt-ends birria and refried beans and cheese) and a handful of sides (the corn tots look particularly tasty).

Next is Crepes Avenue, which opened on April 1. The new French spot prepares both sweet and savory crepes, pressed-paninis and patisserie like macarons, eclairs and beignets. Sweet crepe iterations include salted caramel and banana, strawberry and berry jam, butter and cinnamon sugar and lemon curd with brown sugar, to name a few. Guests can also enjoy savory versions like ham, scrambled egg and cheese; bacon and brie with tomatoes, fig jam with blue cheese and walnuts, or chicken and pesto.

Panini sandwiches at Crepes Avenue include ham and swiss, brie and bacon, Nutella and more. Also of note, are the rotating selection of pastries like Paris Brest, a puff pastry lined with hazelnut cream (unlike the traditional circular shape, this version comes in horizontal form) and gelato from Newport Beach’s Paradiso.

Crepes Avenue also plans on opening another location inside San Clemente’s upcoming Miramar Food Hall, tentatively scheduled to arrive later this summer.

Capas and Crepes Avenue joins Kebab Craft and Karai Handroll Bar X Ramen, two other newcomers to Rodeo 39.

Poised to open later this year inside the Stanton food complex are Seattle-based Crawfish Hut, featuring Cajun-style crawfish and seafood boils, and Blue Bowl, an acai bowl pit stop that, when it opens its door, will mark its 10th Orange County location.
