Trabuco Hills junior Holly Barker, who ran this season’s third-best time in the nation last week in the 3,200, is among the athletes entered in the Orange County Championships meet Saturday at Mission Viejo High.
She is entered in the 1,600 for the O.C. meet. Her competition in the 1,600 will be county leaders Summer Wilson of JSerra and Newport Harbor’s Keaton Robar.
Barker’s time of 10:02.52 in last Saturday’s Arcadia Invitational is the second-best time in Orange County history.
Also entered in the meet are top girls sprinters Avery Groves of Santa Margarita, Ava Simos of Corona del Mar and Justine Wilson of Rosary. The boys sprint events are deep, too, with Devin Bragg of Los Alamitos, Rider Cooper of Portola, Nate Frazier of Mater Dei and Mission Viejo’s Vance Spafford on hand.
Simos also is entered in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
JSerra’s Alden Morales, the state leader in the 800 (1:49.91, seventh-best in county history) is entered in the 800 and 1,600.
The field events including Mission Viejo’s Samantha Chang and Alexa Sheldon of Edison in the girls shot put and discus, Pacifica’s Zach Lewis in the shot put and discus. Mater Dei’s Brandon Gorski, the county leader in the high jump (6-8) and long jump (23-11.75) is entered in both events for Saturday.
Ibzan Felix of Beckman and Evan Noonan of Dana Hills, who ran the fourth- and fifth-fastest times, respectively, in county history at Arcadia are not entered in the boys 3,200 at the Orange County Championships. Noonan is skipping the county meet to focus on the following week’s Mt. SAC meet, and Felix is preparing for Pacific Coast League championships.
Spectator admission is $10. Parking is free but limited.
