Real estate news: Harbinger Motors celebrates new headquarters in OC

Harbinger Motors celebrated the recent opening of its 165,000-square foot headquarters in Garden Grove.

The electric vehicle chassis maker announced last year that it was moving to Orange County from Gardena, signing a lease at 12821 Knott St. with landlord Rexford Industrial.

Harbinger said it will produce its medium-duty EV chassis at the facility.

“We’re excited to officially celebrate the opening of our new manufacturing facility here in Garden Grove,” said John Harris, CEO of Harbinger. “While we’ve already delivered our first all-electric truck chassis to customers, this ribbon cutting marks a significant milestone for our company – and for the future of electric vehicles. We’re proud to call Garden Grove home, a state at the epicenter of the U.S. electric vehicle revolution.”

The company’s new HQ employs 120 people, with plans to hire more in Garden Grove “over the coming year.”

Harbinger last year said it expects to scale up its business “significantly” over the next five years. Its first chassis were delivered to customers’ in late 2023, with full production launching this year.

The company is focusing on medium-duty vehicles that Harris said “serve as the backbone of the commercial transportation industry.”

The vehicles are the ones you see on the street every day, delivering millions of packages every day, Harris said.

“But while this industry has experienced tremendous growth, fleet customers today face acute shortages of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, and any meaningful supply of production-ready EV offerings is still years out. We are solving this problem head-on,” he said in 2023.

Garden Grove officials were on-hand for a ribbon cutting held April 11.

“Our city recognizes the importance of attracting and supporting new business innovators that further efforts towards sustainability,” Mayor Steve Jones said. “My deepest congratulations to Harbinger on their official grand opening and successful delivery of their first electric chassis.”

Rexford bought the Knott Street property in 2019 and quickly made additions, including a 45,171-square-foot high bay area and 20,000 square feet of office space.
