Several of Orange County’s top swimming teams will be among the 81 schools racing at this weekend’s Spring Meet of Champions at Mt. SAC in Walnut.
Northwood, Woodbridge, Troy, Villa Park, University, Irvine and Crean Lutheran are among the entries for a meet that has grown into one of the largest in the state. More than 2,000 swimmers will be racing.
The two-day meet runs Friday and Saturday at Mt. SAC’s new, two-pool complex, which will also host the CIF Southern Section championships in early May.
The Spring Meet of Champions begins Friday with prelims at 1:30 p.m. The finals on Saturday start at 3 p.m. and are expected to run to approximately 7:30.
Orange County’s fleet features several swimmers who are top seeds.
They are: Zara Masud of Woodbridge (200-yard freestyle/100 butterfly), Andrew Maksymowski of Northwood (200 free/500 free), Elson Lee of Northwood (200 IM), Jacob Wang of Woodbridge (50 free), Will Chen of Northwood (100 free) and Ryan Connole of Northwood (100 breaststroke).
The meet also includes diving.
The Spring Meet of Champions has competition on the weekend calendar.
The Mission Viejo Nadadores’ club are playing host to the Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions starting Thursday. The meet includes national team members and up-and-coming swimmers such as Santa Margarita junior Teagan O’Dell.
California Aquatics’ men and women and Sandpipers of Nevada are among the top clubs racing.
