Huntington Beach and Orange Lutheran have advanced to the National High School Invitational semifinals.
Huntington Beach will play Corona on Friday at 11:30 1.m. PDT at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. Orange Lutheran will play Harvard-Westlake at 3 p.m. PDT.
Orange Lutheran lost to Harvard-Westlake 2-1 last week at Hart Park. Huntington Beach lost to Corona 4-2 in the season-opening Prep Baseball California tournament in February.
Huntington Beach has won the NHSI twice, including last year. Orange Lutheran has won the tournament three times, 2017-19.
Orange County teams have won the 16-team tournament in eight of its 10 years.
Huntington Beach in the tournament defeated St. John’s Country Day of Florida 6-1 on Wednesday and Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas 3-2 on Thursday.
Orange Lutheran defeated Farragut of Tennessee 4-1 on Wednesday and St. John’s of Washington, DC, 8-0 on Thursday.
Corona is No. 1 in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 rankings that have Harvard-Westlake at No. 2 and Orange Lutheran at No. 3. Huntington Beach is not in this week’s Division 1 Top 10.
