The Arcadia Invitational as usual will be the biggest and most prestigious meet of the high school track and field season.
The meet, which began Friday with some relays and other events, really gets going Saturday evening with elite-level high school athletes competing at Arcadia High School. Athletes from 36 states and Canada are entered, representing 793 high schools, and a meet-record 645 athletes registered.
Orange County athletes entered include:
Sprinters Ava Simos, a senior at Corona del Mar, and Rosary sophomore Justine Wilson are entered in the 200. Wilson is the Orange County leader this season in the 200 at 24.29 seconds. Wilson also is in the field for the 400.
Los Alamitos junior speedster Devin Bragg is in the 100. His 10.69 in that this season is tied for fastest time in the county this season at that distance.
Dana Hills junior Evan Noonan, in the 3,200. Noonan was the Orange County boys cross country runner of the year for the 2023 season.
Zach Lewis is set for the shot put and discus. Lewis, a senior at Pacifica, is the county leader in both events – 59 feet, 6.5 inches in the shot put and 179-9 in the discus.
Edison senior Alexa Sheldon is entered in the shot put; she won that event last weekend in the Trabuco Hills Invitational with a county-leading mark of 43-11.25. Samantha Chang, a senior at Mission Viejo, is in the discus field. Chang is the county leader there at 147 feet, 5 inches.
Brandon Gorski, a junior at Mater Dei, likely will need his county-leading clearance of 6-feet-8 in the high jump to get a medal in the event at Arcadia. Gorski also is entered in the long jump, for which he also is the county leader at 23-11.75.
