Fullerton bank evacuated, man with possible explosive device shot by police

Police shot a male suspected in a possible bank robbery in Fullerton on Tuesday, after he entered the branch with a possible explosive device, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police and personnel from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad responded to a bank on the 100 block of West Bastanchury Road, near Harbor Boulevard, Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Ryan O’ Neil said. Bastanchury was closed because of the situation.

The male was shot by police while exiting the bank. Details on the condition of the suspect or circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately released. No officers or employees were injured.

The Fullerton Police Department stated on X that there was an active investigation and advised motorists to use alternative routes for the next few hours.
