Teen strikes pedestrians while chasing hit-and-run driver: PD

(KRON) – A victim of a hit-and-run became a suspect of another crime after chasing a vehicle and striking multiple pedestrians, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

Around 10:06 p.m. on Saturday, the victim of a hit-and-run called Redwood City police to inform officers that he was actively pursuing the driver who hit his car. RCPD dispatch obtained the suspect vehicle’s license plate and advised the caller to pull over and wait for officers to respond.

The 19-year-old Redwood City resident identified as Brian Barbatajimaroa did not comply with RCPD dispatch and continued to follow the suspect. RCPD said Barbatajimaroa reached excessive speeds and disregarded traffic signals and rules of the road.

According to police, the suspect vehicle pulled over in the 900 block of King Street and stopped near a group of pedestrians. Redwood City PD said Barbatajimaroa drove toward the group, striking several individuals.

Two of the pedestrians were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

Barbatajimaroa was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for four counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s non-emergency number at 650-780-7100.
