(KRON) — A man employed at a San Jose high school was arrested in late January after a child sexual abuse material (CSAM) investigation identified him as the primary suspect, the San Jose Police Department announced Monday.
Detectives with SJPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children arrested Sherman Cater III, 38, of Cupertino, on Jan. 28. According to police, Cater was “observed downloading and distributing” CSAM from his Cupertino residence during an investigation that ran from November 2024 to January 2025.
A search warrant executed at his residence located devices containing CSAM, authorities said.
During the investigation, detectives learned Cater worked as an active para-educator at a high school on the 3500 block of Zanker Road. Authorities did not name the school, though Kathleen MacDonald High School is located at that address. The Santa Clara Unified School District is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
Cater was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for possession of child sexual abuse material.
