(KRON) — The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) said witness tips played a key role in arresting a man who allegedly stole a yellow cement truck and caused a series of crashes on Monday.
Vallejo police said officers responded to the report of a vehicle theft in progress at a business on the 1800 block of Broadway Street.
Vallejo PD said the man crashed through a roll-up door at the business, causing $50,000 worth of property damages, before leading officers on a short chase. VPD said the officer pursuit was called off out of concern for public safety when the driver ran red lights and drove into oncoming traffic.
Investigators confirmed the cement truck was later found crashed into a utility pole near Alabama and El Dorado streets. Vallejo police said tips from community residents led police to find the suspect at a nearby home, and he was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Police said they discovered through a records check that the man had two arrest warrants out of Pleasant Hill and Nevada, California for probation and restraining order violations.
The unidentified suspect was booked into Solano County Jail and faces several felony charges. Police said the truck was returned to the business.
