(KRON) — A food truck owner was shot at point-blank range outside Omayh Food Mart and Liquor in Vallejo on Thursday night, leaving him hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred on Marin Street, where a witness reported seeing a person in dark clothing approach the food truck, exchange words with the owner, and then fire a single shot before fleeing toward the marina.
The victim’s mother was inside the food truck at the time of the shooting and called 911. Bystanders performed CPR on the victim before police and paramedics arrived.
Neighbors are increasingly worried about violence in the city, with a recent incident involving a 4-year-old girl being critically wounded during a shootout in another neighborhood.
“The other night, I walked out to my car, three, four men all in black, masked, about two them holding their waistband, Something was about to jump off. But it didn’t bother me. I mean, it’s not bothering me, I don’t care,” said one neighbor who didn’t give his name.”
“I’d rather have them go back to fist fighting. You excuse my language, but you get ya ass whopped, then you go home — you come back, you’re friends,” said another neighbor who gave her name as Deborah. “Now, you know, you’re scared to even say anything to anybody — especially, the young.”
Police have not released a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The community remains on edge as they grapple with the increasing violence.
