(KRON) — A woman was struck and killed while crossing a street in Alameda Wednesday evening, according to the Alameda Police Department. The victim was crossing the Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway at the time, according to a preliminary investigation.
Police identified the victim as 59-year-old Alameda resident Karen Conway.
The driver, a 70-year-old man, was making a westbound turn when the collision occurred. Police responded to the scene just before 6:30 p.m.
The woman was in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital where she later died. The driver, police said, remained at the scene and cooperated.
The driver was also an Alameda resident, according to police.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and the exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
“Our heartfelt condolences are with the pedestrian’s loved ones and friends,” police said.
Police declined to release the identity of the driver.
