Suspect caught hiding in bushes after bolt cutting, attempted burglary: deputies

(KRON) — A man faces attempted burglary and vandalism charges after allegedly using bolt cutters on the property of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) National Accelerator Library, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office (SMCSO).

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of Sand Hill Road at 8:30 p.m. Sunday and got a suspect description and their last known location when they arrived at the scene.

As they checked the property, deputies said they found the man who then tried to flee toward I-280.

After a perimeter was established, deputies said they caught the suspect hiding in a heavy shrubbery, with the help of a sheriff’s office K-9.

Investigators said they later discovered “multiple burglary tools and a damaged security fence in the area” where the man was first seen.

Deputies confirmed that Ronald D. Simpson, 46, of Castro Valley, was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for the charges of attempted burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, as well as two outstanding theft related warrants.
