Authorities are searching for two missing brothers, ages 2 and 10, who are possibly searching for their birth parents in South Los Angeles early Thursday morning.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said dispatch received a call just before 2 a.m. for two missing kids in the area of W. 3rd Street and S. Virgil Avenue. Deputies began canvassing the area for the kids, whose names were not made available to KTLA as of 7 a.m.
Details are limited, but preliminary information indicates that the boys are brothers and may have left their foster home on their own accord, heading toward the Westlake district.
KTLA’s Megan Telles reported the boys’ foster parents heard the brothers opening the door before 2 a.m., but by the time the parents ran outside, the kids had taken off.
Unconfirmed reports say their guardians are concerned that the children were in search of their birth parents, who purportedly reside in the 1500 block of W. 52nd Street. The location is about 7 miles from their own home, a distance that the boys were believed to have traversed on foot.
Telles reported that two kids and an adult woman, believed to be their biological mother, were seen outside the Westlake home, but then left the property and have not been found since.
Sky5 was overhead of the investigation, and aerial footage showed an RV parked at the birth parents’ purported address — which detectives had taped off earlier. As of 6:45 a.m., the tape appeared to have been cleared around the RV. In addition, KTLA’s Rich Prickett reported seeing K9 units searching the site of the guardians’ home.
Police ask anyone with information to call 1-877-ASK-LAPD.
This is a developing story. Stay with KTLA for updates.
