(KRON) — A new matcha place is coming to the Serramonte Center in Daly City. Matcha Ren is opening its first cafe on the Peninsula, the business announced in an Instagram post. No official opening date has been announced, but it will be “opening this summer.”
The Matcha Ren in Daly City marks its second location in the Bay Area, joining the inaugural store in San Jose. It will open at the Mochill Mochi Donut space that is next to the fountain in the center court of the mall, according to Regency Centers, the company that operates Serramonte. The donut shop will rebrand as Matcha Ren.
“BAY AREA, we’re coming for you! 🚨MATCHA REN will be opening soon at Serramonte Center in Daly City,” Matcha Ren wrote on social media. “Get ready for all your favorite matcha lattes, soft serve, and more—opening this summer!”
Matcha Ren recently went viral for one of its menu items. Its “matcha spaghetti” started to trend on social media after a post over the weekend showed the offering being served in Los Angeles.
(No, it’s not actually spaghetti that’s matcha flavored. The matcha is served in a spaghetti form that is used as a topping for one of its dessert cups.)
Matcha Ren first opened in 2022 in San Jose, initially under the name “Moochi-Ya Ren.” It has since been branded as “Matcha Ren.” There are locations in Costa Mesa and Los Angeles and Arcadia (coming soon). The business describes itself as “a matcha sweets specialty store dedicated to bringing the traditional taste of Japanese matcha to the world.”
Since opening three years ago, Matcha Ren has built a following of more than 12,000 followers on its Instagram page.
More Upcoming Establishments Opening in Serramonte
While some malls have faced rising vacancy rates, Serramonte might just be the complete opposite. There are currently five vacancies out of more than 100 spaces in the shopping center.
Serramonte has found ways to bring in popular eateries and food experiences to bring foot traffic in. There are a slew of local Asian restaurant favorites set to arrive at the mall or have opened this year.
