Final Orange County boys basketball Top 25: Santa Margarita finishes season No. 1

The final Orange County high school boys basketball rankings for the 2024-25 season.

Notable: Santa Margarita is No. 1 in the final rankings after sharing the Trinity League title and beating No. 2 JSerra in two of their three meetings. … Los Alamitos and Fairmont Prep won CIF-SS championships and both were league champions. … All five Crestview League teams are in the final rankings, and three of those teams are in the Top 10.

FINAL BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25

1. Santa Margarita 27-9: The Eagles, led by Trinity League co-MVP junior guard Kaiden Bailey, tied St. John Bosco for the Trinity League championship. They also beat JSerra in two of their three meetings, winning both league games. Santa Margarita went 1-3 in the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs and lost in the first round of regional playoffs.

2. JSerra 24-11: The Lions, led by senior guard BJ Davis Ray and junior forward Brannong Martinsen, tied Mater Dei for third in the Trinity League, went 1-3 in the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs and advanced to the regional semifinals.

3. Los Alamitos 26-9: The Griffins were a balanced team, went 12-0 in the Sunset League and rolled to the CIF-SS Division 1 championship. They lost to Redondo in the second round of the regional playoffs.

4. Mater Dei 22-9: The departures of two All-County players, Martinsen and Brandon Benjamin, and the season-long injury to another All-County player, Owen Verna, made this one of the least-talented Monarchs teams in decades. Still, they finished third in the Trinity League and reached CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinals.

5. Crean Lutheran 18-13: The Saints, featuring standout junior forward Jacob Majok, won the championship of the excellent Crestview League, lost to Los Alamitos in the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals and lost to Mira Costa in the first round of the Division I regional playoffs.

6. Fairmont Prep 22-11: The Huskies, starring junior forward David Abisogun, won the CIF-SS Division 2AA championship with a 64-60 win over San Joaquin League rival Pacifica Christian in the final. They tied Pacifica Christian for the league title. Fairmont lost to Carlsbad in the SoCal Regional Division I first round.

7. Pacifica Christian 23-9: The Tritons split their two San Joaquin League games with Fairmont Prep and tied Fairmont for the league championship. Pacifica Christian, led by senior guard EJ Spillman, lost to Fairmont in the CIF-SS 2AA final and lost to Redondo in the first round of the regional Division I playoffs.

8. La Habra 20-9: The Highlanders, featuring star junior point guard Acen Jimenez, tied for second place in the great Crestview League and had wins over Crean Lutheran, Canyon (twice) and Fairmont Prep. They lost to Windward in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

9. Canyon 21-10: The Comanches, led by county player of the year candidate Brandon Benjamin, defeated Cypress in a league playoff game to take the Crestview League’s third and final guaranteed CIF-SS playoff berth. They also had nonleague wins over Pacifica Christian and CIF State Division III champion San Gabriel Academy. They lost to Santa Barbara in the Division 1 second round.

10. San Clemente 23-5: The Tritons, led by senior guards Christian Fernandez and Porter Hansen, won the South Coast League championship. They lost to Crestview League champion Crean Lutheran in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
