(KRON) — Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is expanding its footprint in the Silicon Valley with a new facility in Milpitas. The Milpitas City Council unanimously approved an economic development incentive agreement to solidify the partnership on March 4.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rivian to Milpitas,” said Mayor Carmen Montano in a press release Thursday. “This investment highlights Milpitas’ strategic location, skilled workforce, and business-friendly environment, making it an ideal destination for leading-edge companies shaping the future of mobility.”

Rivian’s new location will likely be located at 755 Yosemite Drive. The facility is intended as a Last Mile Hub (LMH) that will serve as a location for inspections, service, sales/leases, and a location for customers to pick up their vehicles.

“Rivian’s arrival marks a significant milestone for the city’s economic development, reinforcing Milpitas’ position within the Bay Area’s thriving technology ecosystem,” said a press release from the city. “The company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation aligns with the city’s vision for a greener, more dynamic future.”

Rivian’s Milpitas facility could be operational by the end of the year, the city said.
