(KRON) — A Benicia man accused of brandishing a replica AR-15-style rifle during a road rage incident in Oakland last month was arrested Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The arrest came after CHP investigated a report from a victim who said that on the afternoon of Jan. 28, the suspect brandished a firearm at them on Interstate 80, east of Powell Street. The victim gave authorities a description of the firearm, suspect and suspect vehicle.
CHP Oakland Area’s Major Crimes Unit determined that the suspect lived in Benicia. On Tuesday, a search warrant was served at the suspect’s house, where authorities said they located the firearm in question.
The weapon was found to be a pellet gun “designed to resemble an AR-15-style rifle,” CHP said.
The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Rita Jail. The man faces charges related to brandishing a firearm in a threatening manner in the presence of occupants of a motor vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.
“Brandishing any weapon—real or replica—poses a significant risk to public safety and can result in serious criminal charges,” CHP said.
