(KRON) — World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar and San Francisco’s own “Main Event” Jey Uso may have made history Saturday night as the first wrestler to win the men’s Royal Rumble match after entering at the No. 20 spot — but that doesn’t mean all fans are eagerly hopping aboard Uso’s self-proclaimed “Yeet Train.”

Uso won the 2025 over-the-top-rope battle royal, featuring 30 wrestlers in what may have been one of the most stacked Royal Rumble matches ever. The lineup included favorites like John Cena — on his farewell tour — Uso’s cousin Roman Reigns, CM Punk, social media magnet and boxer Logan Paul, and Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Uso last eliminated Cena to earn the right to headline WrestleMania against the World Champion of his choice, either Cody Rhodes or Gunther.

In the day since the victory, backlash has been growing, with some fans arguing Uso didn’t deserve the win as he begins his trek on the so-called Road to WrestleMania 41, set for April 19 and 20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Uso has been on a meteoric rise over the past year, breaking away from his family’s “Bloodline” wrestling stable to establish himself as a solo competitor. Traditionally a tag team wrestler alongside his brother, Jimmy, the win marks a career-defining moment. Uso has become synonymous with his popular catchphrases “YEET” and “Uce.” His entrance music has even gone viral at sporting events, notably during the 2024 NBA playoffs when a clip surfaced of fans vibing to his song at a Cleveland Cavaliers-Orlando Magic game. His global popularity was on full display in May when his entrance at a WWE premium live event in Berlin sent fans into a frenzy, earning one of the night’s biggest reactions.

As a member of the legendary Anoa’i family — alongside his father, Rikishi, and The Rock—Uso’s WrestleMania main event spot is a milestone moment. He once competed in dark matches on the event’s undercard, making this a massive leap in his career.

However, fan reaction has been divided. A video of the win posted on WWE’s official YouTube channel has over 600,000 views but only 16K likes. A video posted on WWE’s Instagram account also tells quite a story. Comments range from “Wrong winner button ->” and “Worst Royal Rumble booking I’ve seen. The opportunities missed are just insane” to “I speak for everyone when I say this was the most disappointing Royal Rumble in history” and “Jey Uso at WrestleMania doesn’t make any sense, SO DISAPPOINTED.” One fan went as far as saying, “I don’t even think Jey wins on the WWE 2k24 simulator mode,” referencing the company’s popular 2K video game series.

Meanwhile, fans defended the victory, but were mixed with comments like, “Why y’all upset? Jey deserves it. Congratulations, Jey. He’s been performing week after week. No one saw this coming, which makes it even better” and “Not gonna lie (ngl), I like Jey, but this was a bad decision.”

In a post-show news conference, Uso addressed reporters about the emotional win, admitting he was still in shock but ready for the moment.

“The company going forward with me, they trust me now,” Uso said. “There were some heavy hitters in there. I was a heavy hitter too. Like John Cena said, ‘My time is now.’ And my time is now. I was screaming it out there all night, ‘It’s my turn, it’s my turn.’ It’s just going to go up from here. This ‘Yeet Train’ is just getting started, uce. I’m telling you, just let me rock, just let me keep cookin’. Yeet.”

Uso continued, “I’m the definition, uce, of real hard work. I never complained, just went to work every day. I’m a tag team guy. I just stick to the code. Love what I do, respect the locker room, and it’ll come back to you tenfold. I’m about to take it, uce. I’m about to take over.”

WWE’s NXT on CW airs every Tuesday night on KRON4 from 8 to 10 p.m.
