SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A magnificent mansion in San Francisco that was once owned by late actor Robin Williams sold on Thursday for $18 million, according to a Redfin listing.
The Italian Renaissance Villa was built in 1926 in the city’s ritzy Sea Cliff neighborhood. 540 El Camino Del Mar is nearly 11,000 square feet with three stories, six bedrooms, and six bathrooms.
The mansion was designed by architect Earle Bertz to combine “aesthetic beauty with grandeur and prestige,” the Redfin listing writes.
Windows open to vast views “from the mouth of the Pacific Ocean to the Marin Headlands, the San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, to the cliffs and beaches of Park Presidio,” the listing states. A gated perimeter encloses the properties’ gardens.
Williams and his ex-wife, “Mrs. Doubtfire” movie producer Marsha Garces Williams, raised their children inside the expansive home, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The couple bought the mansion for $3.2 million in 1991, and Marsha Garces Williams kept it following their divorce in 2010, according to the Chronicle.
“This is one of San Francisco’s most remarkable estate properties designed by celebrated architect, Earle B. Bertz, one that truly balances period elegance and luxurious scale with modern sensibilities, joy, and playfulness. And after more than three decades of loving stewardship, it is now ready for its next chapter of devotion, happiness, celebrations and dreams,” the listing states.
540 El Camino Del Mar was originally listed at $25 million in 2023 by real estate company Compass.
Williams died at the age of 63 at his home in Tiburon in 2014.
