LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Smoke from the deadly and destructive Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County is clearly visible from space.
Images from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s GOES-West satellite show smoke from the 22,000-acre wildfire billowing into the sky and drifting west over the Pacific Ocean.
This animation was produced with 120 images from Friday evening into Saturday morning, using multispectral infrared at night and true color during the daytime, NOAA said.
The Palisades Fire, the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history, has leveled more than 5,000 structures and killed at least two people since it erupted Tuesday afternoon during gusty Santa Ana winds, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
