Orange County Top 10 rankings

(Records through Sunday, Jan. 5)

1. Mater Dei (7-1): The Monarchs earned the top spot after defeating Orange Lutheran in the semifinals en route to their first Holiday Cup title.

2. Orange Lutheran (8-1): The Lancers bounced back from their loss in the semifinals to beat Oaks Christian 12-9 in the third-place match at the Holiday Cup.

3. Newport Harbor (11-2): Sophomore center Gabriella Alexson scored three goals, including the winner, in a 7-6 victory against Oaks Christian in the semifinals of the Holiday Cup.

4. Foothill (6-4): The Knights played strong defense in their two wins at the Holiday Cup, including a 7-6 triumph against Corona del Mar in the seventh-place match.

5. Corona del Mar (9-3): The Sea Kings will aim to snap a three-match slide Tuesday when they play at Marina (6-7) in the Sunset League.

6. Laguna Beach (3-6): The consolation champion from the Holiday Cup begins Pacific Coast League play with road matches against Portola and Rosary (at Servite) on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

7. San Clemente (4-4): The Tritons’ 10th-place finish at the Holiday Cup included a 9-4 win against Beckman. San Clemente fell to Laguna Beach 12-10 in the consolation final.

8. JSerra (9-1): The Lions play host to Schurr (2-6) on Saturday before opening the Trinity League against Orange Lutheran next week.

9. Beckman: The Patriots went 2-2 at the Holiday Cup to place 11th.
