Recall issued for 2.6 million travel mugs over burn risk

Stanley has announced a recall of approximately 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs, citing a burn hazard.

The recall, which was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects mugs sold from June 2016 through December 2024 at major retailers including Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The CPSC says exposure to heat and torque can cause the threads of the mug lids to shrink, leading to potential detachment during use.

This defect has resulted in 91 reports of lids detaching worldwide, causing 38 burns, 11 of which required medical attention, the commission said.

The stainless-steel travel mugs, available in 12-, 16-, and 20-ounce sizes, were sold in various colors such as white, black, and green.
