Rain could return to parts of the Bay Area this week

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — After an extended dry spell, rain could return to the Bay Area later this week. It’s looking increasingly likely that the North Bay and coastal ranges could see impactful rainfall on Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

There is “potential for a significant system for the area towards the end of the week,” according to the NWS. “Confidence is increasing that significant rainfall will impact the North Bay and the coastal regions Friday and Saturday.”

“A big change in the coming days will result in relief from poor air quality along with the return of showers, likely Wednesday night into Thursday morning and again on Saturday,” said KRON4 Meteorologist John Shrable.

The weather service said it has lower confidence that rain will fall inland or along the Central Coast. The exact totals for expected rainfall are still in question.

Following a deadly storm toward the end of November, the Bay Area has seen several weeks of dry and unseasonably warm temperatures. If rain were to return to the region this week, it would be the first meaningful Bay Area rain this month.
