The telethon for the Motion Picture and Television Fund, which aired on KTLA 5 on Sunday night, was a huge success.
The live event raised $810,770, exceeding the goal of $750,000.
Actress Yvette Nicole Brown and host Tom Bergeron returned to host the annual event, which featured dozens of celebrity guests and appearances.
Actor Craig Robin of “The Office” fame surprised guests inside the Celebrity Lounge with an impromptu performance of holiday songs on his keyboard, which helped get the party started.
Before the night was over, everyone raised their glasses to toast to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Sam Rubin.
“I was honored this past June to receive the inaugural Sam Rubin Award at the 6th annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards,” Bergeron said. “I shared a quote of Sam’s during my acceptance speech that underscored not only his love for the entertainment community but also his humility.”
“I’m not supposed to be here,” Bergeron said quoting Sam about interviewing Hollywood legends. “But that’s not going to stop me from having the best (bleeping) time!”
“And he did,” the host said fondly.
Proceeds from the telethon provide a wide range of services for workers within the entertainment industry.
While the telethon may be over, the MPTF accepts donations all year long. Just head to: https://mptf.com/donate/.
