(KRON) — Longtime San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford is retiring after 14 MLB seasons, he announced Wednesday on Instagram. Crawford, 37, played his first 13 seasons with the Giants before signing with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024.
As a member of the Giants, Crawford was the starting shortstop for their 2012 and 2014 World Series winning teams. Crawford won four Gold Gloves, made three All-Star teams and was named Silver Slugger in 2015 — all doing so in a Giants uniform.
“Growing up in the Bay Area and going to games at Candlestick, I always dreamed of playing for the San Francisco Giants,” a lengthy post by Crawford read in part. “Being drafted by my hometown team and spending most of my career with them far surpassed any dream I had as a kid.”

The shortstop posted a video montage of Crawford’s best moments as a Giants, including the iconic grand slam during the 2014 NL Wild Card game that silenced the Pittsburgh Pirates home crowd. Giants fans will remember the countless defensive gems Crawford made throughout the years.
Crawford was born in Mountain View and attended Foothill High School in Pleasanton. He attended UCLA before being drafted by the Giants in the 4th round of the 2008 draft.
He finished his career with 147 home runs, 1,404 hits and a .249 batting average, according to Baseball Reference.
