(KRON) — A suspect is in custody following a Wednesday morning fatal shooting that the Morgan Hill Police Department is investigating as a homicide. Police say they responded at 7:11 a.m. to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Tennant Avenue.
Arriving at the scene, officers found a man who had sustained at least one gunshot to the torso. Responding officers administered CPR and wound care to the victim, however, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, witnesses identified the suspect who was walking in the area while police tended to the victim. Officers arrested 30-year-old Jesus Garcia of Morgan Hill.
Police say the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation and that there is no active threat to the community. The victim’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office at a later time, police said.
This is Morgan Hill’s first homicide of 2024.
