SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The Bay Area is bracing for a powerful atmospheric river storm driven by a bomb cyclone set to explode off the Pacific coast overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

The storm is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of the Bay Area with a flood watch issued for the North Bay through 4 a.m. Saturday.

“At least for the first couple of days, the North Bay will really see the largest impacts from this system,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Dial Hoang.

The NWS is urging residents to be prepared by cleaning leaves and debris from storm drains, checking to make sure cars are in good shape for weather, preparing for longer commutes, and never driving through flooded roadways.

By the end of the week, parts of the Bay Area could see a month’s worth of rain in just a matter of days, according to forecasters.
