Six Orange County girls tennis teams were selected to the eight-team Open Division to highlight the release of the CIF Southern Section playoff pairings on Monday.

And perhaps fittingly, all six schools will face off against each other in the first round Friday at 2 p.m.

Second-seeded and undefeated Portola (19-0), the Pacific Coast League champion, will play host to South Coast League runner-up Beckman (14-7). The schools are former Pacific Coast League rivals.

No. 3 seed Santa Margarita (22-2), the Trinity League champion, will face South Coast League champion and visiting Aliso Niguel (11-2).

And fourth-seeded Corona del Mar (15-2), the Sunset League champion, will play host to Sunset runner-up Fountain Valley (13-2).

Undefeated Palos Verdes (20-0) earned the No. 1 seed and will be the home team against Harvard-Westlake (13-4) in the other Open Division first round match on Friday.

The playoff brackets, from the Open Division through Division 7, were constructed for the first time by using power ratings from World Tennis Number and Massey.

Woodbridge (17-5), the Pacific Coast League runner-up, earned the No. 2 seed in Division 1 behind Mira Costa (16-5).

Reigning state champion Mater Dei (7-6), the Trinity League runner-up, takes on Bonita (14-2) in the first round in Division 1 on Wednesday.

In other divisions, the high seeds from Orange County are Sunny Hills and star Daniela Borruel (second in Division 2), Dana Hills (first in Division 3), La Quinta (fourth in Division 5) and Katella (third in Division 6).

Borruel, a USC commit, is 38-0 this season and a two-time CIF-SS singles champion.

The section championships are set for Friday, Nov. 15 at either the University of Redlands or The Claremont Club.

In a scheduling switch, the Division 1 and Open Division finals will be played later in the day. The matches are scheduled for 5 and 5:15 p.m., respectively, at the University of Redlands.
