(KRON) — A newly opened Fremont sneaker store, Highlimit Sneaker and Apparel, was broken into around 4:50 a.m. Friday. Plywood now replaces the entrance.
In surveillance footage, the burglars can be seen ramming a vehicle into the storefront before rushing in to start burglarizing the store.
Kerwin Escudero, Phillip Maze, and Kelvin Compos, the owners of Highlimit Sneaker and Apparel, estimate the damages to the storefront, including merchandise, to be between $15,000 to $20,000 or more.
“Three guys came inside, started taking shoes, inventory from us. They made a mess and holes on the walls, messed up our floor, doors, took some Supreme items and all that,” Escudero told KRON4 News.
Skid marks from the vehicle that was rammed into the store remain, along with empty shelves that were once filled with shoes and apparel.
Escudero said, “It’s definitely going to take some time—definitely take a good amount of time trying to rebuild this place, looking for the people to help us out.”
The store specializes in designer sneakers and clothing, featuring brands like Yeezy, Nike, and Supreme.
“Everything is going to come out of pocket. I’m going to have to talk to my partners about it and see how much we can scratch up and see how much we can fix up and better this place because we’re going to miss it! We’re going to miss it, essentially,” said Escudero.
The three men had their grand opening just two and a half months ago, never expecting something like this to happen in the community they love.
“It took us a lot of money and a lot of time, blood, sweat, and tears into the shop. It was a work in progress; it was a dream come true for us. Since a young age, we used to dream about this as kids, 13-years-old, being sneakerheads. Our parents couldn’t afford to give us what we wanted, so we would have to go out and get it, starting through Instagram and Facebook Marketplace, trading with other sneakerheads.”
Now, they are focused on rebuilding and healing.
“What’s keeping hope with us is the community and the people around us—our family, our friends. The community we built is so loyal to us,” said Escudero. “This is just another obstacle to handle, another bump in the road. We are going to achieve and overcome because I have such a strong team, and we’re going to get through it.”
The owners of Highlimit Sneaker and Apparel are still in contact with police to seek justice. They have also set up a GoFundMe page for those who would like to help with the store’s finances.
